Dr. Gary R. Cook, M.D., F.A.C.S specializes in retina and vitreous diseases and diabetic eye care
Prior to joining the Virginia Retina Center, Dr. Cook was a full-time faculty member of the Medical College of Virginia.
Dr. Cook earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed an ophthalmology residency from the Georgetown University’s Center for Sight. He completed a vitreo-retinal fellowship at the University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinics.
Before coming to the Medical College of Virginia, Dr. Cook was appointed a Clinical Assistant Professor at Georgetown University, directed the Retina Clinic at The Lions Eye clinic at INOVA Fairfax Hospital, and maintained a private retinal practice in Fairfax for 20 years.
Dr. Cook is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons, and is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, the Medical Society of Virginia, and the Virginia Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.
Dr. Cook’s areas of interest include medical retinal diseases, diabetic retinopathy, vein occlusions, ageing macular degeneration, and retinal dystrophies and degenerations.
