Malkit “Mona” Singh, M.D., M.P.A.
Dr. Malkit “Mona” Singh was born and raised in Northern Virginia and is proud to return home to serve her community as part of the Virginia Retina Center team. As the first in her family to attend college, Dr. Singh has built a distinguished career rooted in service, clinical excellence, and a deep commitment to improving vision health.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from George Mason University, where she was named Senior of the Year—the university’s highest honor for a graduating student. She was also awarded the prestigious Harry S. Truman Scholarship and served as a University Scholar. Dr. Singh went on to earn her Master’s in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School, where she was a Harvard Public Service Fellow and interned with the World Health Organization’s Emergency and Essential Surgical Care Program.
Dr. Singh received her Doctorate in Medicine from the Medical College of Virginia / Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. She completed her internship in General Surgery at the University of Utah, followed by an Ocular Angiogenesis Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the John A. Moran Eye Center.
Her clinical training continued with an Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch, and a Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellowship at Beth Israel Lahey Health.
Dr. Singh has practiced as a retina surgeon with Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (Kaiser Permanente) and Erie Retinal Surgery, and served as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at West Virginia University. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists.
Her research has been presented at several leading conferences, including the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS).
Dr. Singh specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the retina and vitreous, with clinical interests including diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusions, macular degeneration, macular holes and puckers, and retinal tears and detachments.
Dr. Singh looks forward to building lasting relationships with her patients and their loved ones—helping them understand their conditions while protecting their sight, health, and overall quality of life.
In her free time, she enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends.
