Dr. Malkit “Mona” Singh

Dr. Malkit “Mona” Singh was born and raised
in Northern Virginia, and she is excited to
return home with skills and experience to serve
her community as part of Virginia Retina
Center. Dr. Singh is the first in her family to go
to college and beyond. She attended George
Mason University as a University Scholar,
receiving her Bachelors in Sociology and the
Senior of the Year Award, the highest honor
conferred to a graduating student by the
university. She also received the national Harry
S. Truman Scholarship. She received her
Masters in Public Administration from the
Harvard Kennedy School, where she was a
Harvard Public Service Fellow, and interned
with the World Health Organization’s
Emergency and Essential Surgical Care
Program.
Dr. Singh received her Doctorate in Medicine at
the Medical College of Virginia / Virginia
Commonwealth University School of Medicine.
Subsequently, she completed her internship in
General Surgery at University of Utah, followed
by an Ocular Angiogenesis Postdoctoral
Research Fellowship at the John A. Moran Eye
Center, University of Utah. She then completed
her Ophthalmology Residency at the University
of Texas Medical Branch and her Vitreoretinal
Surgery Fellowship at Beth Israel Lahey Health.
Prior to joining the Virginia Retina Center, she
was an Assistant Professor in the Department of
Ophthalmology at West Virginia University and practiced as a retina surgeon with Mid-Atlantic
Permanente Medical Group (Kaiser
Permanente) and Erie Retinal Surgery. Dr.
Singh is an active member of the American Academy
of Ophthalmology and American Society of
Retina Specialists. She has presented her clinical
research at various conferences such as the
Association of Research in Vision and
Ophthalmology and American Society of
Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Singh specializes in Diseases of the Retina
and Vitreous. Her clinical interests are in the
medical and surgical management of retinal
diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy, retinal
vascular occlusions, macular degeneration,
macular holes and puckers, and retinal tears and
detachments.
She looks forward to getting to know and care
for her patients and their loved ones, helping
them to understand their conditions and
optimize and protect their sight, health, and
quality of life.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with
her loved ones and traveling.
